The role of the Houseman is to ensure the total upkeep of the employer’s home. The Houseman is very hands on; his duties include heavy interior and exterior cleaning of the home; driving; maintaining household inventories; conducting or scheduling repairs; running errands; shopping; cooking; serving; assisting with parties and events; polishing silver; attending to guests; and more. The range of responsibilities assigned to a Houseman can vary depending on the type of household, number of staff employed and the employer’s requirements.
